Leading the Way on Jobs and Growth
OTTAWA – Member of Parliament Kevin Sorenson says that the Conservative government’s Budget 2010 implements Year 2 of Canada’s Economic Action Plan; continues to protect and create jobs; and provides a three-point plan to reduce the federal budgetary deficit. “This Budget will solidify Canada’s recovery from the global economic crisis, keep the focus on jobs, and help create a Canada where business can grow, innovate and prosper,” Sorenson says.
“Budget 2010 includes measures that will help our local businesses. For example, our government continues to work with the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association and we are responding by providing cattle processing facilities in Alberta with $75 million in funding allocated in Budget 2010 to support investments that help improve their operations. $51.7 million over the next two years will support the operations of the Canadian Grain Commission. The Speech from the Throne reiterates our Government’s commitment to modernizing the Canadian Grain Act; providing the freedom of choice for Western Barley producers and ending the wasteful and ineffective long gun registry.”
Sorenson concludes, “This is a Budget that continues Canada’s economic recovery and prepares us for the future. Budget 2010 confirms $19 billion in new federal stimulus that flows from last year’s decisions it does not introduce ‘new spending’. It will keep Canada’s economy ‘on track’. We will cut the deficit nearly in half in two years - in three years we will cut the deficit by two-thirds. We will not cut spending on health care, education, or support for seniors. Rather, we will be finishing the stimulus spending and commence restraining government spending through targeted measures and launching a comprehensive review of government spending on administration and overhead. I am confident that the Opposition in the House of Commons will pass Budget 2010.”
